Twelve weeks ago I started the 2020 Virtual Challenge Series that was put on by Run The Edge. They called it the Un-Canceled Project.
This is how they described the challenge:
With schools, races, events, concerts, etc. being canceled around the world, life can feel overwhelming and out of control.
But they cannot cancel hope, love, or the human spirit!
The Un-Canceled project is about taking the most important aspects of our lives back. It is about refusing to allow fear to make us angry or unkind to others. It is about moving our bodies, focusing on the positive, and celebrating the things that make us the most human.
So twelve weeks later I have run or walked 17 different races for a total of 112.5 miles.
The challenge has been a life saver for myself and my daughter. It kept us sane when we could not do anything else. It gave us something to do together at least once a week.
On week 8 we decided that we should walk a marathon, I am not really sure what we were thinking.
We looked so fresh and ready to go at 8:00 in the morning.
We still had smiles on our faces at 13 miles.
We finished and we are still able to stand up and smile
After we finished the marathon I walked the mile home and I thought to myself I should keep going and try for an Ultra Marathon. Again I am not sure what I was thinking. My feet were so full of blisters that I finished in my sandals.
I did it! Never in my life did I think I could walk 31 miles in one day.
We are now into June, the last week of the challenge, I finished up with a 8K.
I experienced so many sights and sounds and reflected on life while on the trails and roadways. I also met so many wonderful people while I walked and ran. I will be forever grateful to the people at Run the Edge for coming up with the Un-Canceled project!
We can do anything if we just try....
